Meg Donohue is the USA Today bestselling author of Every Wild Heart, Dog Crazy, All the Summer Girls, and How to Eat a Cupcake. She has an MFA from Columbia University and a BA from Dartmouth College. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she now lives in San Francisco with her husband, three young daughters, and dog, and is working on her next novel.

Meg will be in conversation with Write On Mama Mary Allison Tierney who has also interviewed T.J. Stiles, Peggy Orenstein and Frances Dinkelspiel.

Fifth Annual Mount Madonna Writing Retreat

January 27-29, 2017

There is no charge for the writing portion of this retreat, only for the accommodations. The retreat itself is unstructured although in years past, some of us have written silently side-by-side. Mount Madonna is beautiful and there is also a wellness massage practice and yoga classes. (It’s a full on yoga commune with Hanuman Temple and the whole 9 yards.) Choose from cozy cabins or hotel-like rooms, shared bath or private. All meals are included. Stay one night! Stay both nights! Stay a whole week and make the rest of us jealous! All-Day Writing Retreat in Hillsborough

Sunday, May 21
(Our usual meeting date—the second Sunday of the month—falls on Mother’s Day, so our meeting is a week later.)

Member Harriet Heydemann has graciously offered her home in Hillsborough (five minutes from SFO) for a one-day writing retreat, where we’ll have plenty of space for private writing and also for small discussions. Feel free to come as early as 10 a.m. and stay for as long as you like. At 5 p.m. we’ll break from writing to socialize and toast our progress.

This day is open to all members at no cost.

Here’s what you’ll need to do to join in the fun:

Five Write On Mamas have books out in 2017! The books cover everything from fiction, memoir, travel, food and dating.

Peg Alford Pursell will moderate a panel discussion with three of these authors. Peg directs Why There Are Words, a national neighborhood of literary readings, and is also the director and founder of WTAW Press, an independent publisher of literary books. Her book, Show Her a Flower, A Bird, A Shadow, was published earlier this year.

You’re invited to an afternoon of writing, sips and savories at the new Culinary Institute of America (CIA) campus at Copia in Napa.

The three-hour event starts with time to write and sip from 2 to 3:30 pm. At 3:30 we’ll refill our glasses and nosh on bites provided by the Culinary Institute while enjoying a chance to mingle with contributors. Those in attendance will get the first look at the anthology cover! And there may be a special guest. Mark your calendar now for this festive fundraising event!
